Prof.
Amarnath's research centres around several innovations both with his students and by himself. The earliest innovative work was on hybrid
bearings and devices for automatic generation of dies for Fresnel
Lenses. His work on Mechanical Logic Devices has been extended to the
type Synthesis of Mechanisms. Tasks demanded of mechanisms have been
described using Boolean Algebra and translated into mechanical digital
systems which are then refined. This procedure has been successfully
used to evolve novel Knifeless Textile Dobbies and Circuit Breakers.
